Fairfax County Pool Closures

Now is the time of year when some of Fairfax County’s pools are closed for bi-annual maintenance. For all you swimmers out there, here is the latest schedule:

Lee District: Closed through Thursday September 15th

Audrey Moore: Closed through Friday September 9th

George Washington: Closed through Friday September 9th

Oak Marr: Closed through Friday September 30th

Cub Run: Competition pool closed through Monday September 5, Leisure pool closed through Thursday September 8th

If your favorite pool is closed, be sure to check one of the other facilities in the area.

South Run: Springfield

Mount Vernon: Alexandria

Providence: Falls Church

Spring Hill: McLean

Metro has announced some major track work that may affect your weekend plans. On the Blue line, Franconia-Springfield and Van Dorn Street stations will be closed. Shuttle buses will transport passengers back and forth between the Franconia-Springfield, Van Dorn Street and Eisenhower Avenue stations. Track work affects the Orange line as well. Shuttle buses will operate between East Falls Church and West Falls Church stations as labor continues on the Dulles Rail Project. Closures begin at 8 PM Friday 9/2 for the Orange line, at 10 PM Friday 9/2 for the Blue line and continue through closing on Monday 9/5 (Labor Day). Normal service resumes on Tuesday September 6.

Blue Line:

Trains will run to/from the Huntington Avenue station, with service about every 20 minutes. Passengers using shuttle buses should allow about 30 minutes of extra travel time. Free shuttle buses between Franconia-Springfield and Eisenhower, via Van Dorn.

Orange Line:

Free shuttle buses will transport persons between East Falls Church and West Falls Church stations. Last train will leave Vienna 20 minutes ahead of schedule (2:08 AM Friday and Saturday nights and 11:08 PM Sunday). Trains traveling between Vienna and West Falls Church will run every 24 minutes and share one track. Those persons traveling through this area should allow an extra 30 minutes of travel time to their agenda.

Come out and celebrate Lorton at the Workhouse Art Center’s Block Party on Saturday, September 3rd! Events start at 2 PM and include the Workhouse Artists’ Sidewalk Sale, a Neighborhood Talent Show, Food, Music, an INOVA Blood Drive and the Workhouse Friends & Family Exhibition and Reception from 5 PM to 7 PM. For this exhibit, the Workhouse asked each of its artists to contribute one piece of art and to have a friend or family member who is not affiliated with the Workhouse  do the same.

For $10 you can get a tasting card and experience “Flavors of the Community”. Sample fare from local restaurants such as Madigan’s Waterfront, Great Harvest Bread Company, Joe’s Crab Shack and more!

If you can, please bring non-perishable food items to donate to the Lorton Community Action Center. They particularly need pasta, pasta sauce in plastic containers, tuna, brown rice, canned fruit and vegetables, wheat crackers, cereal and peanut butter.
