Pinewood or Newberry Station is a collection of 150 townhome units located across the street from the Levelle W. Dupell Park in Lorton. This park features a large sheltered picnic area, a playground, basketball and tennis courts and a baseball field. Residents also enjoy the exclusive use of their community’s swimming pool, clubhouse, walking paths and tot-lot. The clubhouse can be rented out by residents for parties, meetings or other special events; it includes a kitchen with a sink and refrigerator, tables, chairs and cleaning supplies. These two and three level homes were constructed during 1977 and 1978 along Hamilton, Stationhouse and Trestle Courts. Square footage ranges from 1,232 to 2,046. Each townhome has 2 designated parking spaces. Students attend Island Creek Elementary and Hayfield Secondary Schools. The homeowners association maintains a website with lots of pertinent information for residents such as minutes from Board of Directors meetings, covenants and architectural guidelines and rules governing the use of the pool. A great feature of this neighborhood is its proximity to Fort Belvoir; the Telegraph Gate is just seconds away. There are also several ways to get here because so many of the region’s major arteries are close by. You are just minutes away from the Fairfax County Parkway, Interstates 395 and 95, and the Beltway. The Springfield Transportation Center provides access to Metro, VRE, Amtrak and Greyhound services; it is only a couple of miles away. Pinewood Station is a great starting point for venturing out to Washington D.C., Old Town Alexandria, Arlington and Tysons Corner.
While this community has a Lorton mailing address, it is just around the corner from the Kingstowne area of Alexandria. Landsdowne Centre, at the intersection of Telegraph Road and Beulah Street, features a wide range of restaurants and service providers. Current tenants include the Kingstowne Library, CVS, Sunoco, Dairy Queen, Pho Bowl, Red, Hot & Blue BBQ, China Garden and 2 hair salons. Construction is set to commence at the new Hilltop Village Center on Telegraph Road. It will be anchored by Wegmans grocery store and feature a variety of retail, office, residential and recreational spaces. The Kingstowne Town Center features 2 grocery stores, a 16-screen Regal Cinema and a nice mixture of shops and restaurants.
