Episode 50 | Tony’s Tribute + Trendy Tastes

Yes, we’re in San Antonio again. Stay tuned, and we’ll tell you why.

Hey everybody, Tom Pietsch with Tom & Cindy and Associates at Long and Foster, and Susan and I are here in San Antonio, Texas, for the jersey retirement ceremony of legendary Spurs guard Tony Parker, future Hall of Famer, and we are also here to check out the hot restaurant scene, and we’re gonna share it all with you. Come on with us.

But legendary NBA superstar Tony Parker’s jersey retirement game was coming up and there were still plenty of hot eateries and watering holes we had on our list, so we couldn’t resist. If you’re ever in San Antonio, there’s plenty here to keep you fed and quench your thirst at a high level.

Okay, so we start off at Cured in the Pearl District. We’ve been wanting to go Chef Steve McHugh’s restaurant for a long time. It gets great reviews, it’s in a really cool building, and it’s basically a hand-crafted charcuterie and a lot of the other handmade in-house products that are just awesome. And cool place, great food, and the wait staff is super friendly and knowledgeable, so this was a hit.

Next stop was Sternewirth at the Hotel Emma. This is a dramatic, clubby, loungey area with classic cocktails and small plates menu.

It’s so hard for us to come to San Antonio and not go to the Cookhouse, so we’re back, let’s go inside, this place is awesome. It was a packed house for a Saturday night at this nouveau Cajun restaurant. We had an excellent meal, we had oyster dip, barbecue shrimp, and jambalaya.

After the Cookhouse, we checked out a new bar on the east side called Pastiche. It’s unique and quirky and set in a 1920s cottage, and it’s kinda like being in the art deco period of France. You got classic cocktails, really excellent music with a lot of Django Reinhardt, pretty comfortable and fun.

Today we’re in Southtown, where we’re gonna get a cappucino at Don Martin’s Coffee Co. and then head over to 2M Smokehouse. Here we were, finally, at 2M Smokehouse. We’d heard so much about it. Some people think it’s the best barbecue in Texas. So you gotta stand in line, and a lot of times they run out of food because it’s so popular. So we were able to get some awesome brisket and barbacoa, which we ate on the screened porch in back. Super tasty, we were impressed.

For dinner, we headed to trendy Southtown. We ate at Battalion, which is an Italian restaurant set in a refurbished firehouse. We enjoyed the freshly made pastas, great drinks, and the stylish decor. This is a must-see, so cheers to you if you go.

We finished the night at a Prohibition era inspired speakeasy called Bar 1919 near the King William section of Southtown.

We’ve got a new favorite pizzeria. It was game day, and we went to lunch at Dough in Southtown. We split a salad, and the Neapolitan pizza was amazing.

It was finally time for the game and the Spurs organization’s tribute to Tony Parker and his incredible career. We had awesome seats. In timeouts, we felt like part of the Spurs huddle. After the game ended, the ceremony began. There were heartfelt and, at times, really funny tributes by many of Tony’s teammates, David Robinson, Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili, Boris Diaw, Coach Popovich, and others. Then it was time to raise Tony’s number nine to the rafters to join the other all-time Spurs greats. Oh man, what a nice getaway. We had a blast here in San Antonio tonight. We went to the game, we had fabulous seats, the ceremony afterwards was incredible.

And then just to put icing on top of the cake, we were at Zinc Bistro & Wine Bar, and we ran into Bryn Forbes, one of our favorite Spurs players. He’s a fabulous shooting two-guard. And Bryn, we were looking for your jersey at the stadium store, couldn’t find it. So get your manager working on that one.

So anyway, San Antonio, great place to visit, and thanks for watching our video.
